Fantastic weekend for all 3 teams.
All 4 Saddleworth ties won by Greenfield, the first time that
has happened in living memory and the first team especially
won two close matches. Great performances from Jason Bennett
and Ben Johnson who completely outshone their Saddleworth counterparts.
News - Sunday 30th July 2006 - Greenfield win Moore Cup Final !!!! Third victory in last six years !!!
Richard Darby leads 2nd X1 to victory in a tight match with a tense finish in
the gloomy light at 8.30pm.
The last 10 overs saw many Greenfield supporters making frequent trips to the
loo as the outcome was never
certain until the winning run was scored with 9 Greenfield wickets down and 2
overs left.
Saddleworth didn't win
the toss and
were put into to bat. First wicket fell to Adam Hayes with 8 on the board, second
wicket
at 59 to Jon Ainley. A recovery and it is the 32nd over, score at 135 for 2 when
Hayes took a remarkable caught & bowled
to dismiss the dangerous Craig Lawrence for 46.
Greenfield seemed to revive at this point and wickets started to fall regularly
and scoring was kept in check, Saddleworth
didn't get chance to put in the last 10 over thrash that would have seen the
score well past 250.
The introduction of Woody and Sully to the bowling attack in the last 10 overs
saw 4 wickets fall for 32 runs.
Greenfield bowling: A Hayes 3 for 42, G Partington 1 for 49, J Ainley 1
for 39, G Jones 0 for 39, J Wood 2 for 31,
P Sullivan 2 for 13.
Saddleworth innings: M Taylor 3, I McLean 27, C Lawrence 46, D Cuthill
34, J Chamberlain 33, R Jones 44no,
G Forrester 1, J Fish 7, P Hadfield 3, S Taylor 0, L Bayliss dnb.
226 for 8
Greenfield started badly
losing both Doomer and young Gilly for 3 runs to the same shot caught by the
same fielder.
6 for 2.
Ainley caught behind on 22 - 34 for 3.
In comes Adam Hayes to join Nigel Kippax at the wicket and these two steady the
Greenfield rocking boat.
Saddleworth constantly appeal for lbw but the score progresses to 103 when
Kippax is c & b by Cuthill.
103 for 4.
Rick McNamara is at the wicket but its Adam Hayes scoring all the runs, the
score moves along to 147 when
McNamara is out for 1 run - a true anchor role!
147 for 5.
Glynn Partington strides to the wicket and proceeds to smash the ball around the
ground, 32 runs in 8 scoring shots,
things are looking good when an attempted slog rises off the bat and hits him in
the chin
- retired hurt for running repairs!
Paul Sullivan is at the crease when Adam Hayes (14 years old) is finally out, a
knock of 76 runs, a large collection
for his 50 and a standing ovation from the crowd.
198 for 6, 31 runs needed, eight overs left.
Sully out for 13 - 204 for 7.
Richard Darby joins Woody at the crease - and Woody is bowled for 1.
210 for 8, one batsman retired hurt, fading light and Saddleworth are up for it.
Glynn (hero) Partington comes back to the crease, with a helmet on and a
dressing on the chin injury that later needed
8 stitches.
Glynn carries on where he left off and scores another quick fire 11 runs and
Captain Richard Darby fittingly scores
the winning run - much to the relief of all Greenfield supporters!
Greenfield 227 for 8

2004 - A Tale of Two Wickets!
Friday 4th June
Greenfield 1st X1 away at
Saddleworth, lost the toss & Saddleworth batted.
Good start for us with Sadd at 22 for 2 off 6
overs but unfortunately the fielding
was not up to par & danger man Peter Skuse (Pro) was dropped twice - when on
10 runs & again when on 50.
He went on to smash our bowling all over the ground finishing on 176 runs,
including 11 sixes and 16 fours!
Final score 266 for 5.
Greenfield bowling:
S Mahboob: 13 overs - 2 maidens- 96 runs - 0 wickets
M Lees: 5 overs - 1 maiden - 25 runs - 2 wickets
Ben Johnson: 17 overs - 0 maidens - 76 runs - 2 wickets
P
Gill: 10 overs - 0 maidens - 51 runs - 1 wicket
We were under pressure from the start & only P
Gill ( 54), J Ainley (27 no)
& J Taylor (24) offered any real resistance.
Still we didn't lose all our wickets ending up on 170 for 8.
Saddleworth win, Greenfield 5 points.
Saturday 5th June
Greenfield 1st X1 at home to
Saddleworth, lost the toss & Saddleworth put us in to bat.
This time the boot was on the other foot - Gilly
was the first wicket down, 34 for 1 with 8 gone.
The old firm of Chris Moore & Jon Taylor at the crease & they bat for another 12
overs until Chris
is caught out for 36 - 85 for 2.
Gaekwad is next in & an 80 run partnership in 12 overs when Jon T is out for 76
- 165 for 3.
Mabs strides to the crease intent on taking revenge for the Friday game & dishes
out some of the
medicine he was given 24 hours earlier.
50 runs in 23 balls (17 mins), a total of 86 runs including 8 sixes & 6 fours -
exciting stuff!
Gaekwad also batting well made 46 runs and the total soon passed 250 - then Ben
Johnson
was in & hit 32 not out to take the Greenfield score to an impressive 303 for
7!
In reply Saddleworth were never really on the run rate - bit like us on Friday.
Mark Lees & Mabs took early wickets & Sadd were
59 for 4 with 14 gone - this time P Skuse
wasn't dropped, a great catch by Captain Mike Moore to dismiss the Aussie Pro.
Ben Johnson started to take wickets & Sadd were all out for 217 in 36 overs.
Greenfield bowling:
S Mahboob: 14 overs - 2 maidens- 89 runs - 3 wickets
M Lees: 11 overs - 0 maiden - 69 runs - 3 wickets
Ben Johnson: 12 overs - 1 maidens - 46 runs - 4 wickets
Greenfield win - 20 points.
