A great response & much vital work completed, the club looks
great and almost ready
for the season.
Last matches of 2005 season
Sun 11th Sept - 1st X1 away v Stayley
Stayley, with only
10 men and no pro, won toss & chose to bat. Three early wickets for Jamil &
Stayley struggling at 33 for 3 and it didn't alter much after that. Only one
Stayley batter scored
more than 16 runs, F Vermaac 88, as wickets fell at regular intervals and they
were all out for 134.
Bowling: P Gill 3 or 27, J Khalil 3 for 30 & J Wood 2 for 19.
Greenfield's reply was all about Sonny who scored 103no, with seven 6's & eleven
4's, and in the
process passed 1000 runs for the season.
The 134 was passed, with a final 6 from Sonny, in 25 overs with 27 overs still
left on the board and
only other batting stroke of note was when Peter Gill managed to score a 4 and
knock Mike Moore
out of his deck chair at the same time.
A great way to finish the season for Sonny and the 1st X1 who finished off with
six straight wins!
Sun 11th Sept - 2nd X1 home v Stayley
Stayley won the
toss, batted and got to 48 before the first wicket fell. At 72 for 2 the wickets
started to fall regularly until they were 116 all out. Chief destroyer was
Jonathan Ainley with 6 for 18
supported by Richard Darby 3 for 30 & Jack Edwards 1 for 19.
Total reached in 25 overs with best batting from Jon Ainley (43no), Stephen
Smith 24, Nigel Kippax 19
and Richard Darby 17no.
This victory consolidates the runners up spot in Division 2 & comes on the back
of six straight wins,
just like the first team.
Well done to captain Richard Darby and all the players who've supported him.
Sat 10th Sept - 3rd X1 home v
Fothergill & Harvey
A weather affected match
that was reduced to 22 overs and a 4 o'clock start.
Greenfield put into bat and rattled up 112 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, all
batters
getting into the teens with top scores from Joe Padgett (19), Lee Diggle (19) &
Ian Moorhouse (17).
A slow reply from F & H & and lost wickets at regular intervals until in the
fading light the last
batsman declined to leave the pavilion.
Great bowling by Graham Farrow who took his seasons tally to 51 wickets with 5
for 42 and also by
U13 player Adam Hayes with 2 for 13, two wickets in 2 balls.
A great season for Steve Padgett & the 3rd X1 who now wait to see if promotion
has been gained!

Double
congratulations to the U13s who are Champions of the Lancashire County
League U13s SE Division.
They then met the other regional champions Prestwich CC to decide who were the
overall champions, and yes Greenfield won that match as well and were crowned
U13 Champions. So two shiny new trophies already in the club cabinet!
The U11's are due in a play
off match to decide the champions of the Tameside District
League - so good luck to them.
The U17s are also glory
hunting - still top of the Saddleworth League and a semi final
place in the Romida Trophy knock out competition.

season
(139 in 20 overs) with Richard Alsop, Matthew Ralph and Steven Malinowski all
scoring 30 and retiring.
Uppermill were then skittled out with Greenfield winning by over 70 runs.

U13B team went down
fighting against Saddleworth's U13s.
Batting first, Greenfield reach 91 all out in 20 overs, a good start from Joe
Hepworth (retired at 30)
and finish from Matthew Ralph (26 not out) but no real partneships in the middle
overs.
Saddleworth get them for 3 wickets down (one run out and one to Will Milnes and
Johnny Rhodes)
but take 17 overs to get there.
Greenfield were 20 runs short but are getting near every week to posting a
winning total.

"Greenfield U13B
suffer defeat in the heat of Moorside on Sunday 19th June.
Batting first Greenfield slumped to 73 for 9 from 20 overs, only some lusty
blows from Calum Walsh
and Jordan Thomas and 17 wides gave us anything to bowl at.
Moorside started their reply well but Lewis Ralph (only 10) bowled brilliant
little spinners to take 3 for 11
from his 3 overs and Moorside temporarily slumped. great catches from calum,
jordan and richard alsop.
We fielded brilliantly (only 3 wides and 1 bye) but Moorside got the runs with 4
overs to spare - we were
probably 25 runs short on the day, but the boys recovered well after
underperforming with the bat."
Champagne moment to jordan thomas for a fantastic catch running in from the deep
and catching the ball
inches above the ground - eat your heart out paul collingwood!

GCC U13s
team in the Saddleworth League have beaten Bamford on 12th June in a game
classed as both
a league and cup match.
Batting first, Greenfield started well, building an opening partnership between
Will Milnes and Joe Hepworth of 68.
Some frantic running in the last few overs saw Greenfield to 92 for 4 on a big
pitch in 20 overs.
Bamford slogged from the start and good
straight slow bowling from Matthew Ralph and Steven Malinowski
made sure wickets fell frequently. Even a good 7th wicket partnership of about
30 couldn't stop Greenfield
triumphing, bowling Bamford all out for 75 in 16 overs.
The win was all the more remarkable because
Fred Bottom's other U13 team was playing on the same day so the
older more experienced players were unavailable. Our team comprised only one boy
at the top of the age group
and 2 boys aged 10 - and no professionals or overseas amateurs in sight!
GCC
U17s - beat Friarmere by 14 runs to move into the semi-final of the Romida
Trophy & where they will entertain
Bamford down at
Ladhill Lane on Wednesday July 16th.
gcc106 for 5 : bamford 92 for 9
gcc U17s are also current joint top of the league.

1st X1
- Sonny Letshela scores 158 runs in Greenfield 1st X1's total of 241 for 7
against Austerlands.
This was no smash & grab as Sonny batted for 42 overs scoring eleven 4s, twelve
6s & facing 145 balls.
(thanks to scorer Jackie Sullivan for the stats!). Is this the highest
individual score by a Greenfield
batsman at Ladhill Lane?
Sonny was ably assisted by Jon Taylor (33 runs) in a stand of 113 for the 5th
wicket. Other scores were
M Moore 13, J Ainley 13, J Wood 9no, C Moore 5, B Johnson 3 + 2 ducks.
In reply Austerlands were 74 for 3 when rain stopped play - shame that!
2nd X1
- Austerlands batted first & were restricted to 112 all out. Glynn Partington 4
for 27, Graham Jones
3 for 24 were the main attack with Sam Royle taking his first wicket in the SDCL
with 1 for 11 of 5 overs.
In reply the old firm of R Darby (22no) & P Sullivan (24no) guided the team to
victory at 116 for 5 minutes before
the rain descended for the night.
15/05
3rd X1- 199 for 7,
Rochdalians 205 for 2
Greenfield won toss and batted. A good all round performance with useful
contributions from Ian Moorhouse,
Stephen Smith, Steve Padgett, Mike Dunkerley & Joe Padgett (37). Star of the
show was 14 yr old Lee Diggle
who scored 63 not out on his senior cricket debut.
199 runs seemed a good score but proved not to be - Rochdalians lost only 2
wickets in the chase & secured the
win in the 34th over.
14/05
1st X1 beat Friarmere by 9
wkts.
Friarmere won toss & decided to bat but early inroads by Jami & Ben saw them
reduced to 51 for 6.
The inevitable fight back came but was to no avail as Jami took 6 for 32 & the
innings subsided to
129 all out in 41.3 overs.
Sonny carried on where he left off last week blasting the ball to all corners of
the ground with Gilly
playing the anchor role. After 15 overs the score reached 100, Sonny was out in
the 18th over for 88 runs
with the score on 117. No more wickets fell as the winning runs were scored by
Gilly.

2nd X1 beat Friarmere by 60 runs in
a high scoring match.
Batting first Greenfield were in early trouble at 36 for 3 but a magnificent
innings by Nigel Kippax not
only held it all together but proved to be the basis for victory. Nigel scored
103 runs and batted for 43 overs
ably supported by Jack Mayall (28) & Paul Sullivan (32)to leave Greenfield on
248 for 8.
Friarmere were never really in the hunt after a crash of early wickets left them
at 51 for 5. They rallied briefly
but were all out for 188 runs.
Best bowling - Glynn Partington 4 for 24 & Jack Edwards 3 for 32.

07/05
1st X1 beat Droylsden in a 20 over match that started at 5.00pm, the
absolute deadline time.
Great debut for Seate Letshela (ever after known as Sonny) as he opened the
innings & smashed
46 quick runs. Top scorer was Chris Moore with an aggressive 60 that held the
innings together
& only ended when he was out off the final ball.
The score of 163 proved too much for Droylsden who finished on 138 for 5.

2nd X1 - no play
01/05
First team didn't start their match at Hollinwood - ground unfit.
Second team (111 all out) lost to
Hollinwood (187 for 6).
This was a 34 over match & we fielded a very young team, only three players over
18 yrs old.
Best bowling - Jack Edwards 10 overs, 4 for 47
Best batting - Richard Darby 41, Glynn Partington 34
30/04
3rd X1 match against Darcy Lever cancelled due to wet ground caused by heavy
early
morning rain. Nice of Darcy Lever to turn up after being ordered by the League
to play the match after they tried to cancel the fixture for the third time in 3
seasons!
24/04
Under 13s beat Denton West in a 20 over Lancashire Cup game.
3rd X1 win first game of season beating
new opponents Springhead.
Greenfield batted & scored 168 for 8 - Stephen Smith top scored with 67.
First senior wicket to fall this season is Ian Smallwood, played all around a
straight one
(Ian - "I thought it was doing a bit through the air & off the seam!")
Springhead bowled out for 132 - 6 wkts for Graham Farrow & a couple for Jack
Edwards.
Certain scorers & first team players seen
last Sunday night in the Clarence, obviously
limbering up for the season. A pint, a bag of crisps and a poor attempt at the
quiz.
Oxford & Cambridge can rest easy but John Smith's brewery have new willing
customers.
Worcester sauce crisps back on sale in the Club - Doomer reckons its 'one small step for mankind'.
