Greenfield 1st X1 @ Greenfield:
MATCH SPONSOR - JOHN FITZGERALD
Bamford have assembled an impressive
team of 'amateurs' with their pro, Lincoln Roberts, scoring
240no on the first day of the season.
One Manchester paper suggested that Roberts was likely to fill his boots at the
'small' Greenfield ground!
Well he must take a size 11s because that's all he'd scored when he fished at a
blinding outswinger from 16 year old
Mark Lees and was caught behind by Ste Bottom - but let's not get ahead of
ourselves.
Greenfield won the toss & batted
first and scored 197 for 8 based on a patient partnership of 97 between
Chris Moore (70 runs) & Jon Taylor (43 runs) against some accurate Bamford
bowling.
The second wicket fell in the 35th over at 125 for 2 so it was left to the
remaining batsmen to fill Greenfield's boots.
Some did - Mabs 32 runs and Mark Lees 15no helped take the score to 197 for 8.
Enter the Bamford big shots,
Lincoln Roberts out for 11 & then a stand involving Richard Heaton, ex Delph
amateur,
& J Horrocks that took them to 71 for 2.
A couple more wickets fell but Heaton was still in on 51 & looked like winning
it for Bamford until Mark Lees came back
for his second spell. Heaton tried to hoick the ball for straight 6 but it
travelled up toward the boundary in front of
the benches & Jon Ainley was underneath it! A fantastic catch that was the
turning point of the match.
From 131 for 5, Bamford were all out for 163.
Greenfield bowling:
S Mahboob: 22 overs - 10 maidens- 43 runs - 4 wickets
M Lees: 10 overs - 1 maiden - 51 runs - 3 wickets
Ben Johnson: 11.1 overs - 1 maiden - 55 runs - 2 wickets
A great all round performance from
the Greenfield team with some excellent fielding throughout the side - & without
Gilly who was unavoidably detained in 'Gay Paree'.
Greenfield win - 19 points.
